While we aren't exactly flying around the world solving crime-focused mysteries like Carmen Sandiego, we do work every day to demystify healthcare interoperability so that patient-centered care is a solution readily available to us all. Here are a few places we've been and where we're headed in the next few months.

Cleveland, OH - IHE North American Connectathon - January 20-24, 2020

Last week, we could feel the excitement around data standards during the IHE North American Connectathon, the healthcare industry’s largest, most rigorous interoperability testing event. IHE’s unique testing environment allows vendors to test, re-test, and debug their systems in minutes because participants are working toward a greater goal. We partnered with Perspecta’s ecosystem, HealthConcourse, at the Connectathon to test CareNexus® – our standards-based care coordination solution – in preparation for a connected use case at HiMSS20. Built using the power of open data standards, CareNexus® and HealthConcourse emphasize modularity and interoperability. HealthConcourse provides a common framework to optimize how different solution components, such as CareNexus®, interact within a cohesive ecosystem. Our collective goal is to enable person-centric healthcare without boundaries.

Perspecta CMIO Shane McNamee shared, “In talking with the vendors at the Connectathon, it was evident that continued market signals are reality around healthcare IT buyers increasingly seeking standards-based products. FHIR is now cool. There is an unmet, ongoing need for true, patient-centric clinical pathways across the traditional boundaries in healthcare. Everyone is tired of proprietary data models that lock customers and their patients to outdated technology.”

Washington, DC - ONC Annual Meeting - January 27-28, 2020

This year's Annual Meeting of The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) will gather approximately 1,200 health IT stakeholders to discuss a variety of health IT, healthcare, and innovation topics surrounding Connecting Policy and Technology: Bringing the EHR to the Patient.

Yesterday, we were pleased to learn more about current federal priorities from keynote speaker Alex Azar, Secretary of Health and Human Services, while today, Team BZ was in attendance to hear about ONC's health IT strategy for the new decade from Dr. Don Rucker, National Coordinator for Health IT.

Sydney, Australia - HL7 International Working Group Meeting & Connectathon - February 2-7, 2020

On behalf of our VA clients, Team BZ will once again bring our standards and interoperability expertise to the HL7 community. HL7 Working Groups are dedicated to providing a comprehensive framework and related standards for the exchange, integration, sharing and retrieval of electronic health information. We look forward to influencing the creation of practical health data interoperability standards and learning more about the ongoing efforts of our stakeholders and partners.

Orlando, FL - HIMSS 2020 - March 9-13, 2020

Team BZ is gearing up for HIMSS 2020 and our participation in the use case vignette “Veteran Care without Boundaries” with our partners at Perspecta. The 2020 HIMSS Global Health Conference & Exhibition is the biggest health information and technology event of the year, where Team BZ will collaborate with professionals from the health IT industry on innovative new trends. We are excited to bring CareNexus® to new and existing partnerships!

â€śOur standards-based care coordination platform improves care quality and data management by connecting community-based providers and patients, along with others, across a patient’s continuum of care. We are excited to be a part of the dynamic and influential health IT community and participate alongside Perspecta and other partners in the HiMSS20 Veteran Care without Boundaries use case."
- Brian Book, President, BookZurman

Stay tuned for much more from HIMSS 2020!
